Ruth M. Hoch, 89, of Shippensburg, died on the evening of Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Moravian Manor, Lititz, PA.
She was born on December 23, 1923, in Shippensburg, the daughter of the late Arthur P. and Bertha May Thrush Mell.
Ruth worked as a machine operator at the Beistle Company, putting the springy arms and legs on all the various party products. She was employed there for thirty seven years, retiring in the mid 80’s.
Ruth was a volunteer for Shippensburg Meals on Wheels. As a life-long bowler, she participated in the local leagues well into her 80’s. She was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles. She enjoyed watching many sports including golf, tennis, and hockey; and even went to dirt track car racing events. She was widely considered a master of sports history trivia. Ruth took a lot of pride in being a hometown girl and was admired for her quick wit and great sense of humor. She was a lover of animals and always kept a watchful eye on the neighborhood pets.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Christine A. (W. Kent) Pauley of Morgantown, WV and Robin A. (Charles W.) Rieck of Mt. Joy; two grandsons, Adam M. (Amy) Miller of Kill Devil Hills, NC and David M. (Jacque) Miller of Evansville, IN; and four great grandchildren, Luke, Morgan, Ben, and Maggie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Hoch, who died on December 30, 1984, and her brother John Mell.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Mr. W. Kent Pauley will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
