Ruth Allen

Ruth E. Allen, 73, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born on August 4, 1946, in Lurgan, a daughter of the late Guy P. and Elizabeth M. (Baer) Stouffer and married Harry S. Allen in July of 1985.

Ruth worked as a seamstress for the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg, for thirty years, until their closing. She was currently employed in food service at Shippensburg University, for the past twenty years.

In her free time, Ruth liked to garden, can what she grew, and was also a very good baker. She always enjoyed a bargain, so you could find her at B.B.’s in Newburg, quite often, and treasure hunting at local yard sales. Spending time with her family and friends was very important to Ruth.

In addition to her husband of thirty-five years, Harry, she is survived by two daughters, Paula Benchoff and husband Mike of Greencastle and Andrena Goodhart and husband Ed of Shippensburg; two step-sons, Geoff and John Allen; four grandchildren, Michael Reath, Jennifer Piatt, Trent Goodhart, and Wyatt Goodhart; five great grandchildren, Myles, Rayne, Cohen, Garrett, and Conner; two sisters, Arlene Coy and Marcia McDannell; three brothers, Larry Stouffer, Galen Stouffer, and Jerry Stouffer; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by one daughter, Vivian Sites; two sisters, her twin, Reba Weller and Vesta Jane Weaver; and one brother, Frank Stouffer.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at the Lurgan United Brethren Church. Pastor Art Page will officiate. Interment will follow in the Lurgan Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday morning at the church.
