Roy H. ‘Mousy” Myers, 86, life-long resident of Roxbury, went to be with Jesus on the evening of Thursday, November 5, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 20, 1928, in Roxbury, in the same house where he passed, a son of the late Hugh Jacob and Rosella Margaret Reed Myers. Roy was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, enlisting in 1950 and honorably discharged in 1952, decorated with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He married Ms. Dorcas M. Hile on June 29, 1954 in Saxton, PA.
Prior to his military service, Roy was employed at the former Shirt Craft Company. Upon being discharged, he started working for Penn Dot doing road maintenance and then was employed at the former Valley baking Co., as a delivery driver. He retired from the Letterkenny Army Depot in 1993, after twenty-two years of employment, having never even missed one day of work.
He was a long-time member of the Mowersville Brethren in Christ Church. In his younger years, Roy liked to play guitar and sing with his sisters. He was excellent at repairing electronics and once had a small repair shop for a period of time. Roy was an avid collector, reader, enjoyed hunting mushrooms, and watching movies, wrestling, and especially baseball, which at one time he played semi-pro.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorcas; four children, Roy Gregory (Nadine) Myers of Santa Maria, CA, Doris Linda (Lester) Robinson of Ft. Loudon, Joyce Amy (Jack) Della Monica of Clearwater, FL, and Lori Jean (Raymond) Sipes of Waynesboro; one sister, Dorothy Aby of Shippensburg; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by one son at birth; one brother; and six sisters.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. David S. Halteman will officiate. Interment with military honors, conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will follow in the Mowersville Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
