Roy Z. Butts, 93, of Shippensburg, died on the afternoon of Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on June 10, 1919, in Middle Spring, Cumberland County, a son of the late William and Jennie Rebuck Butts.
Roy worked for SKF Industries, for over 30 years, retiring in 1982, as a machinist.
He was a member of the Ridge Church of the Brethren, the Gideons International, and after retirement, spent a great deal of time volunteering at Camp Joy-El, where he sang with the Corral Singers, and Joy-El’s sister camp, Camp Victory.
Roy is survived by his son-in-law, David E. Burkholder of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Eric S. (Laurie) Burkholder of Chambersburg and Tiffany A. (Todd) Saylor of Hermitage; three great grandchildren, Alea A. Burkholder of Chambersburg and Kayla J. and Conner J. Saylor of Hermitage; and many nieces and nephews.
Roy was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred G. Rebok Butts, who died on March 13, 2005; his daughter, Shelby J. Burkholder, who died on March 3, 1999; four brothers, John, George, Harry, and Glenn Butts; and four sisters, Hazel Jumper, Mary Smith, Mildred Shoemaker, and Anna Stockslager.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Ridge Church of the Brethren, Shippensburg. Brother Earl F. Stovall and the Rev. Harold E. Yeager will officiate. Interment will follow in the Otterbein Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday evening, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg.
