Ross E. Peterson, Sr. 87, of Lower Horse Valley, Upper Strasburg, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at home.
He was born June 20, 1925 in Shippensburg. Ross was a son of the late Ross E. and Ardella C. Helm Peterson.
He retired in 1987 from the Scotland School for Veterans Children and was a member of the Upper Strasburg Church of God. Ross was a United States Army Veteran of World War II where he was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne. He was a Prisoner of War and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the NRA, Disabled American Veterans, Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, Shippensburg, Battle of the Bulge Club, Carlisle, and the Stag Club of Path Valley.
In addition to his parents, Ross was preceded in death by his wife, Gail M. Gaston Peterson who died February 28, 2003. A step son, Wendall E. Millhouse and a sister Zelda Lloyd are also deceased.
He is survived by one son, Ross E. Peterson, Jr. and his wife Joanne of Upper Strasburg, four grandchildren, Autumn Alleman, Jessica L. Foust, Cody and Dustin Peterson, two step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Glenn and Dana Peterson both of Shippensburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. Officiating will be The Rev. Keith R. Bell. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg VFW and American Legion Posts will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
