Ronald Wales

Ronald E. “Ronnie” Wales, 72, of Newburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at the WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.

He was born on August 12, 1948, in York, a son of the late Charles and Arlene (Ort) Wales, Jr. and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He married Constance J. “Connie” Lindsay on February 16, 1969, at the Messiah United Methodist Church.

Earlier in his life, Ronnie worked as a long-haul truck driver for the former Cressler Trucking. He then went on to work as a forklift driver for sixteen years at JLG, Shippensburg, from where he retired.

Ronnie was a life member of the Cumberland Valley Hose Co. #2, Shippensburg, and served in many capacities over the years. He was especially known for helping with their ice cream socials and serving ice cream at the fire station for the Corn Festival. Ronnie was also once a member of the former Shippensburg Jaycees.

In his free time Ronnie and Connie enjoyed traveling. They especially enjoyed their many trips to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, Florida, and also New Orleans. In later years he enjoyed simply being around home, being outside, and mowing the grass. Ronnie enjoyed watching western shows on television and John Wayne movies. He especially loved and cared for his two dogs, Lucy and Buds.

In addition to his wife of fifty-two years, Connie, he is survived by his son, Bradley L. Wales and wife Annette of Newburg; two grandsons, Josey L. and Codey W. Wales of Newburg; two sisters, Mary Harrold and husband Walton of Orwigsburg, and Dorothy Guogas of New Jersey; one brother, Preston Wales of Connecticut; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Jacobs and Betty Leiphart; and one brother, Lewis Wales.

A celebration of Ronnie’s life will be held from 12:00 p.m., until 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at the Wales residence, 25 Pin Oak Lane Newburg, PA 17240. Casual attire is requested. Friends and family are encouraged to stop by to pay respects, visit awhile, and share memories and stories of the good times.
