Ronald Sailhamer

February 6, 1949 — September 28, 2018

Ronald L. Sailhamer, 69, of Shippensburg, departed this life in the early morning of Friday, September 28, 2018, at his home.

He was born on February 6, 1949, in Chambersburg, a son of Lewis W. and Virginia A. Goshorn Sailhamer. Ron was a 1968 graduate of Shippensburg High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, inducted on May 21, 1969 and honorably discharged on December 23, 1970. He married his wife of forty-seven years, Janet, on June 19, 1971, in the Shippensburg First Church of God.

Ron started his working life at H & H Chevrolet, working for Frank Hollar, Jr., for seventeen years. While employed at H & H, Ron was also planning for his next career, in real estate, in which he was licensed in 1986. Starting at the former Hale Real Estate, Ron eventually came to open Sailhamer Real Estate, in 1993. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2016, Ron passed the business on to his son-in-law, John Dyson, who continues to operate Sailhamer Real Estate into the future. Ron worked very hard throughout the years, many early mornings and late nights, to grow his business into one of the preeminent, family owned, real estate offices within the Cumberland Valley. His family and his business were always the most important things in Ron’s life.

He was a member of the Shippensburg First Church of God, the Orrstown Lodge No. 262, F. & A.M., Shippensburg Scottish Rite Club; the Harrisburg Association of Realtors; and several other real estate associations. In his free time, Ron enjoyed going to auctions and collecting antiques, focusing on early American pieces, firearms, and American Indian relics.

In addition to his mother and wife, Ron is survived by his daughter, Rhonda L. (John) Dyson of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Kemper, Joey, and Emma Dyson; his brother, Willis C. (Candy) Sailhamer of Newburg; brother-in-law, Rodney L. (Jody) Smith of Shippensburg; two nephews, Brent (Leah) Sailhamer of Carlisle and Dylan (Meghan) Smith of Carlisle; two nieces, Amanda (Casey) Motter of Carlisle and Alexa Smith of Shippensburg; numerous cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis W. “Louie” Sailhamer, who died on January 29, 2015.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Harold E. Yeager will officiate. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites bestowed at 7:30 p.m.

Ron’s family wishes to thank Wellmon Family Practice, Summit Cancer Center & Hematology, Dr. Khan, and Grane Hospice for their compassionate care and support over the past two years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orrstown Lodge No. 262 F. & A.M. at 30 Noble Drive, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
