Rodney W. “Rod” Kitner, 59, of Newburg, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012 in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 19, 1952 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Ray W. and Angeline M. Holloway Kitner.
He retired from the Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg in 2006. Rod was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of Vietnam and was in the Naval Reserves. He was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 and their “Minutemen”, Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, and the Minnequa Social Club all in Shippensburg and the Landis-McCleaf-Detachment Marine Corps League and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 842 both in Chambersburg. He was a 1970 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School.
Rod had a passion for music. He was a member in a band called the “Echoes” and enjoyed listening and playing classic rock music on his guitar.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa K. McBride Kitner, two daughters, Katie M. Kitner and her fiancé Ryan E. McGowan of Mechanicsburg, and Sarah R. Kitner of Newburg, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, two sisters, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc. with The Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Kiser officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the services Thursday morning.
