As a child Rodney attended the one room school in Cleversburg, grades one through eight. Here he acquired his lifelong love of reading. After leaving school he continued working on the family farm…plowing the fields with a team of horses, mowing and pitching hay, and tending the animals.
Rodney was a veteran of WWII, having been called into service in July 1942. He served as a military policeman in the U.S. Army Air Forces in England, Belgium and Germany. He was discharged in December 1945.
Upon returning to civilian life, Rodney began his lifelong career as a trackman with the Reading Railroad Company. He retired with over thirty years of service.
During his retirement years, Rodney enjoyed hiking daily with friends, playing card games with friends and taking day trips to many different places. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and mowing acres of grass.
Rodney’s real love was the outdoors and hunting. During his lifetime he took many hunting trips to Maine and Canada, as well as multiple trips to counties in western Pennsylvania. He hunted locally until his late eighties.
He was a lifetime member of the Oscar M. Hykes Post #223 of the American Legion and the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168 in Shippensburg, as well as the Hub City Social Club. For many years he was a member of the Walnut Bottom Rod and Gun Club.

Coy, II, and his niece Lorraine Coy Ferrell and her husband Heath, and two grandnieces Jacqueline and Lauren Ferrell, all of Shippensburg. He is also survived by numerous cousins and many friends.
