Robert A. “Bob” Strohm, Jr., 87, of York, passed away the morning of Monday, June 24, 2024 at his home.
He was born on October 3, 1936 in Chambersburg, a son of the late Robert A. and Thelma E. Kann Strohm, Sr. He married Sandra Piper on August 16, 1958. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2002.
Bob was a 1954 graduate of the Shippensburg High School and earned his Bachelor of Science from Shippensburg University in 1958. After his time at Shippensburg University, Bob completed his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from the American College of Life Underwriters and his Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) designation from the National Association of Life Underwriters.
From 1958 to 1961, Bob worked as an assistant probation and parole officer for Cumberland County Courts, Carlisle, PA. After his time in law enforcement, he shifted his career focus to the insurance industry, serving as an agent for Prudential Insurance Company in Shippensburg from 1961 to 1965. Bob then was promoted to sales manager for Prudential, Camp Hill from 1965 to 1970, and regional supervisor from 1970 to 1973. From 1973 to 1986, Bob was the district manager for Prudential, York, eventually retiring in November 1986.
Bob was also a custom golf club maker, fitter, and repairer. He achieved the Class A Accredited Professional Clubmaker designation through the Professional Clubmakers Association and obtained the Advanced Professional Clubmaker designation through the Golf Clubmakers Association.
A clear avid golfer, Bob was a life member at the Out Door Country Club in York. He was a member of the York Quarterback Club and Starview United Church of Christ, as well as a life member of both the National Rifle Association and Starview Sportsman Club. He was an automobile enthusiast, owning many autos and belonged to four Thunderbird clubs.
He is survived by his two sons, Robert A. Strohm III and Clay P. Strohm, both of York; three nephews; and one niece.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by one brother, Edward C. Strohm.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Laura Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
