Robert E. “Gene” Runk, Sr., 66, of Chambersburg, died on the evening of Sunday, August 9, 2015, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on April 25, 1949, in Chambersburg, a son of Robert B. and Velma (Hockenberry) Runk. Robert was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He married Doris ‘Jean” Hasting on January 28, 1967, at Mt. Rock Church, Shippensburg.
Robert was employed at Manitowoc, Shady Grove, retiring as a supervisor in 2010. He was a member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge F. & A.M. #315, Shippensburg. Robert was an avid sportsman who enjoyed being outdoors playing ball, golfing, and hunting. He was a big fan of the N.Y. Yankees and enjoyed mornings with his buddies in the ‘Breakfast Club”.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Doris ‘Jean” Runk of Chambersburg; two sons, Robert E. (Melinda) Runk, Jr., of Duncannon and Bradley C. (fiance’ Brandy Ayers) of Millersburg; four grandchildren, Brady, MacKenzie, Madison, and Kylie Runk; two brothers, Kenneth C. (Becky) Runk of Chambersburg and Leonard R. (Deb) Runk of Upper Strasburg; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, August 14, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Marlin E. ‘Butch” Neil will officiate. Interment with military honors, provided by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
