Robert L. Rotz, 70, of Shippensburg, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at home surrounded by family.
He was born August 11, 1943 in Chambersburg. Bob was a son of the late Harper W., Sr. and Catherine E. Klenzing Rotz.
He was a United States Navy Veteran from 1960 until 1964 and from 1963 to 1964 he was Crew Chief with the Blue Angles. Bob was then in the United States Air Force from 1965 until 1969, serving in the Vietnam War from 1966 until 1967, and on return assisted with the Thunderbirds at Nellis Air Force Base. Bob was in the United States Marine Corp Reserves from 1975 until 1979. He retired from the Pennsylvania Electric Company with over 30 years of services, and then worked part-time at Franklin Hardware and Pet, Chambersburg. Bob was a member of the following: Blue Angles Alumni Association, Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, Shippensburg and a former member of the Harrisburg Bike Club. He enjoyed hunting and spending many hours with acquaintances in West Virginia. Bob loved his dog Buddy.
Even though he was a private man, Bob made many friends and had a special relationship with God.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, John W. Rotz who died December 22, 1999, and a daughter, Heather R. Cummings who died September 21, 2013. A brother and a sister are also deceased.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sue E. Berkheimer Rotz; a sister, Patricia A. Watson and her husband Tom; a brother, Rev. Richard A. Rotz and his wife April; three grandchildren, Zachary and Jeremy Marpoe, and Trenton Rotz; all of Shippensburg, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2014 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 11 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Richard A. Rotz. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veteran’s Council will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
