Robert D. Reed, 94, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the Hershey Medical Center. He was born in 1924 in Altoona, PA, son of the late Bruce Orlando and Sara Jane McMonigal Reed.
He was a retired Professor of Biology at Shippensburg University and previously taught biology at Somerset High School. He was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg.
Robert was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater as a Technical Sergeant. He was a 1949 graduate of Gettysburg College, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He received a Masters in Biology from Penn State University.
He served as a Boy Scoutmaster for over 30 years and was also active for many years with Cumberland Valley Rail Trail and Shippensburg Tree Committee.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Stairs Reed, and by a brother, Alan Wayne Reed.
Robert is survived by one son, Mark (Karen) Reed of Shippensburg, five daughters, Janice (Edwin) Jackson of Camp Hill, Cynthia Noell of Advance, NC, Lisa Reed of Winchester, VA, Judith (James) Asch of Carlisle, and Diane (Anthony) Cosenza of Chambersburg; 14 grandchildren, Baden and Luke Reed, Sarah and Emily Jackson, Michael, Katharine and Robert Steinour, Megan Steinour Baum, Curtis and Nathan Schaffer, Lauren Davidson Lamper, Jaclyn Davidson, and Bryan and Kevin Lowry; and seven great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Friday, October 12, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 12 noon at the Lambertsville Cemetery, Somerset County.
