Robert L. “Bob” Ocker, 79, of Shippensburg, died on the evening of Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at his home.
He was born on August 21, 1932, in Shippensburg, a son of the late Ralph W. and Edna G. Piper Ocker. On August 25, 1956, Robert married Ms. Delores J. Winters, at the home of Rev. O.A. Kearns, in Orrstown.
Robert was an equipment operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, retiring in 1994, after twenty-eight years of employment.
He was a member of the N.R.A. who liked hunting and reading western books. A “Jack of all trades”, Bob liked to tinker in his garage and do wood working.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Delores; two sons, David L. (Debbie) Ocker of Shippensburg, and Robert E. (companion, Kathy D.) Ocker of Chambersburg; one daughter, Lynda L. (Mrs. John) Sommerville, of Mount Union; one brother, Kenneth E. (Bonnie) Ocker of Shippensburg; two sisters, Edna Jane (Mrs. Robert) Vaughn of Shippensburg, and Ethel L. Ocker Cover of Newburg; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne E. Ocker and a granddaughter, Kayla R. Lynch.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, April 16, 2012, in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, with Chaplain Yvonne Rulli-Butler officiating. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania at 1320 Linglestown Road Harrisburg, PA 17110.
