Robert Johnson

Robert G. “Bob” “Chief” Johnson, 68, of Scotland, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

He was born November 12, 1944 in Newville. Bob was a son of the late George L. and Marian Weigle Johnson.

Bob was a 1963 graduate of Shippensburg Area Senior High School and then graduated from Barber School in Harrisburg.
He worked in Shippensburg for Jim Gring’s Barber Shop until opening his own shop in Scotland in 1967. He moved his business to his current residence in 1972 where he continued to practice barbering for 50 years. Bob always loved his customers and thoroughly enjoyed what he did. He said he would cut hair up until the day he died and he did just that. Bob touched many lives over the years and was a father figure to many. Many years ago he worked at SKF Industries in Shippensburg.

Bob loved going to the cabin watching deer, riding 4-wheeler and feeding his birds. Earlier in life he was an avid hunter and trapper. Going to the Chesapeake Bay crabbing was another favorite, and he loved to show others how to run a trot line.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Johnson who died in 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Viola E. Deihl Johnson, one daughter, Tiffiny A. Shetter and her husband Terry of Shippensburg, two sons, Teddy R. and Thomas L. Johnson of Scotland, one brother James A. Johnson of Shippensburg, one sister, Joanne Clouse of Newville, numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 26, 2013 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Mr. Bill L. Gruver. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
