Robert “Dale” Highlands, 77, of Shippensburg, died on the afternoon of Saturday, September 27, 2014, at his home.
He was born on July 24, 1937 in Shippensburg, a son of the late Robert Bryan and Margaret Smith Highlands. Dale was a U.S. Navy Veteran, enlisting on August 10, 1955 and honorably discharged on August 3, 1959. During his service, he married Ms. Berneda Ann Barmont while on leave, on April 13, 1957, in Hagerstown, MD.
Dale was a carpenter for fifty years, employed by Lobar, McCoy Bros., and Pyramid construction companies, from around the Harrisburg area, retiring in 2001. After retirement, he spent a lot of his time hunting and being Camp Host, along with his wife, at Cowans Gap. Dale was a post member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg; a member of the Shippensburg Fish & Game; and a member of the North American Hunting Club.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Berneda, of Shippensburg; three children, Dennis (Teresa) Highlands of Shippensburg, Terry (Deborah) Highlands of Chambersburg, and Sharon (Brian) Kline of Roxbury; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; one sister; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Interment with military honors, provided by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will follow in the Norland Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
