Robert E. “Bob” Heefner, Jr., 70, of Shippensburg, died on the evening of Thursday, April 24, 2014, at his home.
He was born on September 23, 1943, in Waynesboro, a son of the late Robert E. and Mary Bell Heefner, Sr. Bob was a 1961 graduate of Waynesboro High School, a U.S. Army Reservist from 1965 until 1970, and married Ms. Mary E. Ocker on September 23, 1967.
Bob worked as a Machine Operator in the Cut & Crease Department of the former American Can/James River/Fort James Co., Chambersburg, for 35 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion, Post #223, Shippensburg. In his free time, he liked to hunt, fish, and tend to his vegetable garden. Bob’s main joy in life was watching his three sons play baseball and football while growing up and more recently, he enjoyed going to the local McDonalds to join his friends for coffee in the morning.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary; three sons, Robert E. (fiance’ Lynn) Heefner, III, Wayne B. (fiance’ Colleen) Heefner, and Brian P. Heefner; two granddaughters, Allison Nicole Heefner and Gwyneth Love Heefner; two sisters, Donna K. (Kerry) Bonner and Rebecca A. Miller; one brother, Dr. Donald L. (Mary) Heefner; niece, Dr. Amy S. (James) Taylor; and two great nephews, William and Wesley Taylor.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Grace United Church of Christ, Shippensburg. The Rev. George W. Heckard will officiate. Interment, with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council, will occur in the Mongul Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at church.
