Robert J. Gochenauer, Sr., 91, a resident of Elmcroft of Shippensburg, died on the evening of Monday, January 14, 2013.
He was born on April 1, 1921, in Lurgan Twp., Franklin Co., a son of the late Bruce W. and Laura M. Duke Gochenauer. Robert was a U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran of World War II, enlisting on September 4, 1942 and honorably discharged on November 15, 1945.
Robert worked as a mechanic for the Borough of Shippensburg, retiring in 1985, after over 25 years of work. Earlier in life he had also been employed at Naugle Motors, Hippensteel’s Garage, Henry’s Bakery, and Letterkenny Army Depot.
He attended the First Assembly of God, was a life member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, both of Shippensburg, and loved to fish.
Robert is survived by three daughters, Barbara L. (Alva) Shoop of Dayton, WY, Janetta A. (Edward) Guyer of Gardners, and Shirley A. Smith of Chambersburg; one son, Robert J. (Melinda) Gochenauer, Jr. of Newburg; one step-son, David D. Shank of Newville; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence R. Hoch Gochenauer, who died on October 29, 1994; his second wife; Lula P. Hancock Gochenauer, who died on December 26, 2006; three brothers; and one sister.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 18, 2013, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Daniel E. Cluck will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be one hour prior to the services on Friday, at the funeral home.
