Robert P. Gilbert, 59, of Shippensburg, died on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born on December 25, 1950, in Mainsville, a son of the late Robert E. and Vivian Piper Gilbert.
Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting on February 26, 1969 and honorably discharged on February 26, 1971. He was employed as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at the Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1996.
On June 24, 1972, Robert married Ms. Kandy R. Richardson in Fayetteville.
He was a member of both the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168 and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg. Robert was an avid hunter, loved animals, especially his dogs, and most of all, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kandy; two sons, Travis L. (Katrina) Gilbert and Chris P. (Molly) Gilbert, both of Shippensburg; three siblings, Ronald Gilbert of York, Donald Gilbert of Shippensburg, and Charlotte Winters of Shippensburg; five grandchildren, Jacob, Olivia, Garrett, Kloe, and Kenzie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William T. Gilbert.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. Pastor Donald L. Herb will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in the Air Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg. Viewing will be Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
