Rita M. Greenawalt, 78 of Newburg, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 23, 2010 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 17, 1932 in Muncy, PA, she was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Kathryn Musselman Shriner.
Rita was a 1949 graduate of Milton High School, Milton, PA and a 1952 graduate of the Harrisburg School of Nursing at Harrisburg General Hospital receiving her Registered Nursing License where she went on to work in the labor and delivery units at Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Lewisburg Hospital and eventually retiring from the Chambersburg Hospital after 25 years of service where she founded the Resolve Thru Sharing Program.
She also worked as a Registered Nurse at Forest Park Nursing Home in Carlisle, and volunteered as a parish nurse at the former New Hope United Methodist Church, Newburg.
Surviving are her Husband of 57 years, William Paul Greenawalt, four sons; Mark W. Greenawalt and his wife Linda, Clark E. Greenawalt and his wife Kimberly and Garth M. Greenawalt and his wife Lori, all of Newburg and Jeffrey L. Greenawalt, Chambersburg, one sister; Joan Martin, Lancaster, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Newburg, with the Rev. Phyllis A. Hunter and Rev. John A. Ile, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Otterbein Cemetery. A Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service Wednesday in the church.
