Richard M. Wyrick, 87, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of December 14, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on December 2, 1930, in Walnut Bottom, a son of the late Harry C. and Carrie Jane Holtry Wyrick and was a 1949 graduate of Shippensburg High School. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, enlisting on February 14, 1951, and honorably discharged on February 4, 1955. He married Betty Jane Lohman on September 30, 1951, in the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg.
Richard worked for the former Texas Eastern Co., retiring as a supervisor in 1991, after thirty-four years of employment.
He was a long-time member of Messiah United Methodist Church; the Hub City Club; the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223; the Walnut Bottom Rod and Gun Club; A.A.R.P.; and the treasurer of Investment Club. Richard was also a 32nd degree mason; a member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge #315, F. & A.M.; the Harrisburg Consistory; the Valley Forest #145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon; and the Zembo Shrine.
Richard’s great love was the Shippensburg Community Fair, at which he started volunteering in 1962, first in charge of game concessions, then serving as vice president, and ultimately as president in 2006. He also was in charge of the Demolition Derby for thirty-five years. Richard had a great love of most all sports. His pride and joy was his great granddaughter, Alyssa.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Betty Jane, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Snider and Pamela (Bill) Crusey; granddaughter, Carrie Snider; grandson, Ryan Crusey; great granddaughter; Alyssa; four sisters, Mary Stouffer, Betty Wyrick, Virginia Kelso, and Thelma Lentdorsky; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by three sisters; five brothers; and a granddaughter, Natasha Crusey.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Steve Livermore and Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites taking place at 7:30 p.m.
