Richard Mellinger

Richard L. “Rick” Mellinger, 54, of Newville, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 in the emergency room of the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born May 10, 1956 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Frank and Ruth Ile Mellinger.
He was a life member of the North American Hunting Club and the National Rifle Association. Rick was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and a 1974 graduate of Big Spring High School. He enjoyed farming, his orchard, hunting, visiting the Gettysburg Battle Field, reading about WWII and the Civil War, and most of all spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Sharon E. Morrison Mellinger whom he married February 20, 1976, two sons; Travis L. Mellinger and his fiancé Kendra Klase of Middleburg, and David R. Mellinger and his wife Summer of Newville, one daughter, Kelly E. Rockwell and her husband Tory of Carlisle, two brothers; Eugene Mellinger of Newburg, and Garry Mellinger of Landisburg, two sisters; Linda Jacobs of Newville, and Karen Beam of Shippensburg, three grandchildren; Tristan and Teagan Mellinger, and Logan Rockwell, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2011 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 7 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Philip Steele. Burial will be private. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
