Richard E. Kandarczyk, 84, of Newburg, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at home.
He was born Friday, July 31, 1936 in West Hazleton, PA. Richard was a son of the late Bernard and Edith Burton Kandarczyk.
Richard graduated from West Hazleton High School. He served honorably in the United States Army in the First Calvary during the Korean War. Richard retired from Rohm & Haas Chemical plant after 36 years in West Bristol, PA. After retirement he moved to Newburg, PA. He was active with the Minute Men of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg where he also was a life member. Richard was a life member of both the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168 and the Shippensburg Fish & Game Association. He was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church. Richard loved history and was especially interested in the Civil War and WWII. He enjoyed trains, hunting, reading, doing crossword puzzles, his 1986 Jeep CJ 7 and spending time with his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife, Dolores A. Garbacik Kandarczyk whom he married June 4, 1960. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage, four children, Mark Kandarczyk of Newburg, Gary Kandarczyk and his wife Sharri of Alabama, Kenneth Kandarczyk and his wife Gail of Levittown and Karen Ann Lefever and her husband Kenneth of Lititz, seven grandchildren, twins Kaycee and Krista, Logan, Richard, Matthew, Lindsey and Lauren, one great-granddaughter, Gianna and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg. Officiating will be Father Ben Dunkelberger. Burial with military honors conducted by the Minute Men of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the church.
