Richard Commerer

Richard A. Commerer, 94, of Shippensburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on Monday, April 4, 1921 in Shippensburg, Cumberland County; he was the son of the late G. Arthur and Mary Nicholson Commerer.
Richard was a 1939 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII where he received the Good Conduct Medal, four overseas Service Bars, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. He participated in the battles and campaigns at Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, and Po Valley.
Richard was a member of the Shippensburg First Church of God and their Men’s Bible Class. Additionally, he was a member of the PA Farmers Association. He loved farming and truly cherished his family.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Louise Myers Commerer, one son, Robert G. (Linda) Commerer, Sr., one daughter, Christine A. (James) Dupler, all of Shippensburg, two grandsons; Robert G. Commerer, Jr., of Shippensburg, and Brent L. Commerer of Big Piney, WY, one granddaughter, Danell L. Kline, of Shippensburg, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; William and George Commerer.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. James Rogers and Rev. David Erisman officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council. A viewing will be held Wednesday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shippensburg First Church of God, 121 East King Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
