Richard D. “Don” Carl, 74, of Shippensburg, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at the Shippensburg Health Care Center.
Born Saturday, July 21, 1945 in Waynesboro, PA, he was a son of the late Lester L. and Pauline B. Bardine Carl.
Don attended public schools in Waynesboro, Fayetteville and Shippensburg. He worked as a farmer alongside his father for many years, he then worked at Valk Manufacturing in New Kingston, Ingersoll-Rand Manufacturing (now Volvo) in Shippensburg and Penn State Mon Alto Campus, Mont Alto.
He loved the Lord and attended several churches through the years, including the First Church of God in Shippensburg, the First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg and was very involved in missionary work with youth fellowship at the Christian Life Church in Chambersburg, where he traveled to Canada and the northwestern United States. He loved to sing hymns and praises and loved to read his Bible.
Don is survived by one brother, Lester W. Carl, Vienna, VA; two sisters, Mary Jane Kitzmiller, Carlisle, and Doris J. Holtry, Shippensburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James E. Carl and one sister, Carol A. Carl.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial service and burial will be held at a later date.
