Rev. Erick Herman Peterson, 86, of Shippensburg, went to be with his Lord on Friday, October 3, 2014 in the Shippensburg Health Care Center.
Born May 10, 1928 in Jamestown, NY, he was a son of the late Herman and Ida Westover Peterson.
Erick Ministered thru Melodyland Christian Center in Anaheim and helped pioneer several new Congregations in Palm Springs, Mira Loma and Pasadena, CA, including Teen Challenge and Prison Ministries. He pastored several Lutheran Churches in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida and continued assisting at his home congregation.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Landisburg; he retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber in South Gate, CA after 25 years of service and later worked for 10 years at Jamestown Metal Products.
Erick was a United States Army WWII Veteran, a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg, enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking and working in his vegetable garden.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anna Elizabeth Carlson Peterson, three daughters, Karen A. (husband Hal) Still of Shippensburg, Linda K. (husband Vernon) McCraw of Lakewood, NY and Judy L. Peterson of San Marcos, CA, two sons, Erick N. (wife Terrie) Peterson of Jamestown, NY and Rev. David P. (wife Arden) Peterson of Mechanicsburg, two sisters, Leda Rechin of North Fort Myers, FL and Edith Peterson of Buffalo, NY, 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Lynne Peterson, two grandsons, Tom Anderlik and Mark Lucia, three brothers, Nels, Carl and John Peterson and one sister, Astrid Fox.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Lutheran Church with the Rev. David P. Peterson and Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Kiser. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood, NY with military honors conducted by the local Veterans Council. A viewing will be held Sunday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., and one hour prior to the service on Monday, in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 800 Falling Spring Road, Landisburg, PA 17040.
