Rev. Earl Barrick

March 22, 1936 — October 18, 2023

Rev. Earl F. Barrick, age 87, departed this life on the morning of Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at WellSpan York Hospital. He married Thelma V. Piper, May 29, 1959, and they shared sixty-four years of marriage together and resided in Shippensburg, PA.

He was born March 22, 1936, in Carlisle, PA, a son of the late Clarence O. and Mary E. (Flohr) Barrick. He was a member of the Big Spring United Methodist Church, Newville, PA.

Earl was a graduate of Newville High School; completed courses at Shippensburg University; and attended the Wesley Theological Seminary, in Washington, D.C. He worked as a shipping clerk for U-Wanna-Wash Frocks in Newville, PA; served as a church lay-speaker and as President of the Gideon Chapter of Carlisle, PA, before entering full time ministry. He pastored at Mt. Victory, U.M. Church (Gardners, PA); Breezewood U.M Charge; Roxbury U.M. Charge; and after retiring in June 1998, he served as a part time minister with the Hillcrest U.M. Charge (Shade Gap, PA).

He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard and was an active member of the Crystal Spring Campground Association in Crystal Spring, PA. Earl enjoyed spending quality time with his wife, family, and friends, creating woodworking projects in his workshop, hunting and fishing, doing home repairs, and being outside mowing, gardening, and working around his home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Randy S. Barrick and wife Kimberly of Breezewood, PA and Robert E. Barrick and wife Tiffany of Newburg, PA; one daughter, Pandy S. Tomko-Green of Fayetteville, PA; two brothers Reverend Dale E. Barrick and wife Ann of Carlisle, PA; and J. Paul Barrick and wife Esther of Newville, PA; one sister, Helen M. Wagner and husband Don of Newville, PA; seven grandchildren: Zackery, Matthew, Bradley, Michael, Abigail, Casey, and Colt; three great-grandchildren: Adriona, Morgan, and Samuel “Reed”; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by a brother, Ray O. Barrick.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 27, 2023, at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. in Shippensburg, PA. The Reverends Dale Barrick and Joel Barrick will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, PA. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday morning at the funeral home.
