He was born on June 21, 1942, in Newburg, a son of the late Amos and Bertha (Smith) Ocker. Ray married Cynthia L. (Parson) Shope on March 31, 2001, in the Grace United Church of Christ, Shippensburg.

Ocker and wife Denay of Carlisle; three grandsons, Cody Ocker and fiancé Kelsie Vioral of Carlisle, Brandon Ocker and wife Ashley of Mechanicsburg, and Evan Ocker and wife Summer of Carlisle; five great grandchildren, Braylon, Madilynn, Emma, Analiya, and Natalie; one brother, Robert Ocker and wife Dolores of Shippensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his first wife Mary B. Ocker, who died on June 26, 2000; and three brothers, Alfred, Kenneth, and Ronald.
