Ray Henry

Ray E. “Abe” Henry, Jr., 81, of Shippensburg, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 in the Shippensburg Health Care Center.

He was born Wednesday, August 22, 1934 in Mongul, PA. Ray was a son of the late Ray E., Sr. and Grace B. Rebuck Henry.

He was a member of the Mongul United Brethren Church where he taught Sunday school class and was a past Superintendent. Ray attended Prince Street United Brethren Church. He retired from SKF Industries and H & H Chevrolet, Shippensburg. Ray was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of the Cumberland Valley Lodge #315, F&AM, Shippensburg. Ray coached and umpired Little League Baseball and Girls Softball, was an avid Washington Nationals and Arizona Cardinals fan, and loved to golf and fish. He was a left handed pitcher for the United States Army baseball team in Ft. Carson, CO and the Mongul Blue Mountain baseball league. Ray loved to attend Shippensburg High School Greyhound football games and stand in the end zone.

Ray is survived by two daughters, Stacey L. Prince and Shawna R. Heck and her husband Rick, three grandchildren, Shanda Y. Prince, Colton L. Heck, and McKailee J. Heck all of Shippensburg, two nephews, John Smith of Lancaster, and Robert T. Henry, Jr. of Mercersburg, one niece, Anne Corwell of Chambersburg, and a sister-in-law Delores Henry of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by one brother, Robert T. Henry and one sister, Helen G. Smith.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. James O. Bolich. Burial with military honors will be conducted by the Shippensburg Veteran’s Council in Mongul Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home with Masonic Services conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Cumberland Valley Lodge. There will not be a viewing on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602 or a Veteran’s program of choice.
