August 3, 1945 — February 6, 2025

Newburg

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ralph J. “Butch” Mozingo 79, of Newburg, PA, who peacefully passed away at his home on February 6, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on August 3, 1945, in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, a son of the late William G. and Mildred M. Bailey Mozingo. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie (Speck) Mozingo, three daughters, Tracy Stevens-Taylor of Phoenix, AZ, Rebecca (Brian) Mozingo-Kaes of Linwood, NJ, and Gwen (Pete) Kissinger-Muir of West Chester, PA; 6 grandchildren Nicholas Arriviello, Olivia, Sydney, and Julia Kaes, Bryce Taylor, Veronica Muir and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was one of 14 siblings and is survived by his brother, Paul Mozingo of Florida, and his half-sister, Delores Unger of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers: Bill, Bob, Gary, Ron, Don, and Dave, and three sisters: Judy, Suzanne, and Sheila. Butch often shared fond and loving memories of his days growing up with his large family.

Butch graduated from Shippensburg Area High School, class of 1963. After graduation, he served three years in the United States Army, including a one-year tour in Germany. Following his service, Butch completed an apprenticeship as a machinist at the former Frick Company. Afterward, he worked at Allis-Chalmers and RH Shepard. He tried his hand at insurance, but soon returned to his passion for mechanics. Butch returned as a machinist with Conrail (Norfolk Southern), where he dedicated 34 years of service before retiring in 2006. After retiring, he worked for several years in maintenance at Rocktown Apartments in Shippensburg, where he enjoyed helping and interacting with Shippensburg University students. Butch's generous nature and unparalleled work ethic kept him active until the very end.

Butch served as President of the Board of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 and played a key role in the construction and relocation from King Street to their new building on Dykeman Road. Butch was renowned for his exceptional mechanical skills. He could fix or build anything, and people from all over brought their cars to his driveway for him to "take a look." He was an avid reader with hobbies including tinkering with cars and home improvement projects. Butch was a dedicated father who took his role seriously, always supporting his daughters in their activities. He coached softball and traveled the region to watch, never missing a single game. He built a state-of-the-art dance studio for his oldest daughter Tracy in his garage. Above all, he cherished spending time with his six grandchildren and relaxing by the ocean in Myrtle Beach, SC with his wife Connie. His family was his greatest love and joy.
