Rachel V. Cover, 78, of Shippensburg, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 in the Shippensburg Health Care Center.
Rachel was born May 1, 1934 in Pond Bank, Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late Samuel B. and Anna Scott Shoemaker.
Rachel was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Chambersburg. For many years she cared for children in her home. Rachel enjoyed crocheting, her pets, grandchildren, great grandchildren and participated at the Shippensburg Corn Festival. She was a graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harold L. Cover, Sr. Four brothers, Harry, James, Lloyd and Jesse Shoemaker, and two sisters, Elsie Kelso and Grace Hershey are also deceased.
Rachel is survived by a son, Harold L. Cover, Jr. and his wife Wanda of Davenport, IA, two daughters, Victoria R. Hippensteel and Diane K. Souder and her husband Steve all of Shippensburg, five grandchildren, Aubrey Cover of Davenport, IA, Stephen and Christopher Souder of Upper Strasburg, Jennifer Shuman and Penny Kirby both of Shippensburg, seven great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mae Varner and Anna Mary Hancock both of Shippensburg.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.in the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 230 Siloam Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201, with the Rev. Dennis D. Chisholm officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Sunday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services in the church on Monday.
