Phillip Dorosh

Phillip Metro Dorosh, 83, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Monday, December 5, 2022, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.

He was born on December 6, 1938, in Carlisle, a son of the late Metro Phillip and Neoma L. (Zeigler) Dorosh. Phillip was a United States Air Force veteran, enlisting on July 17, 1956, and honorably discharged on July 16, 1960. He married Ruby J. Brenize on September 29, 1989, in the Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Phillip worked as an electrical technician for E.G. & G. at the Washington Analytical Service Center, focusing on airport noise monitoring, for twenty-five years, retiring in 1994. After retiring, he worked in the same field, although in a private capacity, for several years for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

In his free time Phillip volunteered for the Cumberland Valley Rails to Trails and the Middle Spring Watershed Authority. He enjoyed exercising, hiking, and playing cards. Phillip was a former member of the Boonsboro and Shippensburg Lions Club; a former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 20 in Boonsboro, MD; a member of the Branch Creek Place Senior Center; and a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Chambersburg, but also attended the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Newburg.

In addition to his wife of thirty-three years, Ruby, he is survived by two sons, Phillip L. Dorosh and wife Brandy of Boise, ID and Mark E. Dorosh and wife Elaine of Shepherdstown, WV; a daughter, Lisa L. Gayman and husband Alan of Shippensburg; seven grandchildren, Isabel, Levi, and Audrey Dorosh, all of Boise, ID, Will Myers of Shepherdstown, WV, Kirsten Grimm of Martinsburg, WV, and Paul and Benjamin Gayman, both of Shippensburg; brother, Nick Dorosh; two sisters, Susan Brown and Alice Hair; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Sullivan.

There will be two funeral services for Phillip. The first will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. John A. Ile will officiate. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday afternoon.

The second service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, December 12, 2022, at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Chambersburg. Father David Jacobs will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. There will be no viewing prior to the service on Monday morning at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Orthodox Church.
