Philip G. Hoover, 86, of Newburg, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 in Green Ridge Village, Newville.
He was born March 20, 1930 in Newburg, PA. Philip was a son of the late Joseph and Grace Shuman Hoover.
He was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church. Philip retired from Exxon. He was a life and founding member of the Newburg-Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg. Philip was a 1948 graduate of the Shippensburg High School. He was a United States Navy Veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl Philip Hoover and a brother, Rodney Hoover.
Philip is survived by his wife, Louise McMullen Hoover whom he married July 6, 1950; four sons, Larry Hoover and his wife Diana of Orrstown, Leroy Hoover and his wife Elizabeth of Carlisle, Daniel Hoover and his wife Heather of York, and Ray Hoover and his husband Stephen of Hanover; two sisters, Nancy Alexander and Katherine Lauver both of Chambersburg; four brothers, William Hoover of Newburg, Alan Hoover of Chambersburg, Jay Hoover of South Mountain, and Ned Hoover of Bloserville; five grandchildren; one great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Newburg United Methodist Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Steve P. Salisbury and The Rev. John A. Ile, Jr. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held two hours prior to the services in church.
