Peter Simon McHenry, Jr., 77, of Newburg, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Sunday, July 11, 1943 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Peter Simon and H. Annabelle (Shoemaker) McHenry, Sr.
Peter was of the Protestant Faith. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Stoltzfus Roofing, John Walter Excavating, the former Valley Pride Baking Company, and Valley Quarries.
Peter was a devoted husband, father, and pappy. He loved spending time with his family, and being in the mountains, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Franklin and Cumberland County Tractor Pullers Association, where he pulled a 4-wheel drive truck that he built.
He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Darlene Ruth (Christman) McHenry, whom he married January 12, 1963; daughters, Mabel (James) Koser, Beverly (Steve) Saphore, Cathy (Dan Beam) McHenry, and Diane (Kevin) Hummel, all of Newburg; grandchildren, David Koser, Newburg, Andrew (Cassandra) Saphore, Colorado Springs, Sandra (Tyler) Koser Atherton, Orrstown, Timothy Saphore, Newburg, Cody (Jessica Deitch) Hummel, Newville, and KateLynne (Wesley) Hummel Fleming, Upper Strasburg; great grandchildren, Natalie, and Elizabeth Saphore, both of Colorado Springs, Kadyn and Kierra Koser, both of Newburg, and Kimber Fleming, Upper Strasburg; step great-grandchildren, Trinity Gallo and Gavin Tritt, both of Newburg; one sister, Dorothy Baker; two brothers, Larry and Melvin McHenry, all of Shippensburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Brian Peter Koser and one sister, Evelyn McHenry.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 24, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Minutemen. Pastor Kevin Dunlap will officiate. A viewing will be held Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.
Those in attendance are asked to observe the recommendations pertaining to reducing the potential spread of Covid-19; by wearing masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing as much as possible.
