Peggy Martin

Peggy L. Martin, 82, life-long resident of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Saturday, February 24, 2018, at her home.

She was born on February 16, 1936, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Paul and Katherine Burkholder Mentzer and married Clair E. Martin on April 19, 1953, at Clair’s home in Shippensburg.

Peggy was the best homemaker and mother. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking, and making her home a haven for others. Volunteering was an important part of her life, which she did for Shippensburg Meals on Wheels and at the Shippensburg Health Care Center. Peggy was a member of the Cedar Street Mennonite Church and taught Sunday School there for many years.

In addition to her husband of sixty-four years, Clair, she is survived by eleven children, Deborah Rotz of Shippensburg, Sheila (Melvin) Lehman of Guys Mills, Stephen (Sandy) Martin of Shippensburg, Denise (Richard) Frey of Wisconsin, Gary (Jess) Martin of Carlisle, Lisa (Lamar) Diller of Chambersburg, Andrew (Karen) Martin of Texas, Wade (Lara) Martin of Chambersburg, Chris (Penny) Martin of Shippensburg, Adam (Evie) Martin of Shippensburg, and Wesley (Jenna) Martin of Chambersburg; thirty-one grandchildren; fifty-six great grandchildren; brother, Paul Mentzer of Georgia; sister, Betty Jean Binner of Shippensburg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Terry Rotz, and two brothers, Robert and Michael Mentzer.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the Rowe Mennonite Church, Shippensburg. Ministers Larry Lehman, John Horst, and Allen Lehman will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be no public viewing. A time of visitation will be held concurrent with a meal following the services on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Shippensburg Meals on Wheels at 115 North Fayette Street Shippensburg, PA 17257.
