Paul Fogelsanger

Paul L. Fogelsanger, 92 a resident of Luther Ridge, formerly of Shippensburg, departed from this life Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Menno Haven.
Born January 8, 1918 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late J. Paul and Carrie L. Beattie Fogelsanger.
He was a 1935 graduate of Shippensburg High School and a 1937 graduate of the Central Pennsylvania Business College of Harrisburg.
In 1937 he entered the insurance business where he became co-owner of the J. Paul Fogelsanger Insurance Agency with his father. Paul continued to operate the business until 1979 at which time he sold it to his son, Jeffrey P. Fogelsanger and Fred Clapsaddle.
In October of 1942 he accepted a position as Employment and Placement Officer at Letterkenny Ordnance Depot and in 1943 also became the Civil Service Officer, where he remained until he was inducted into the U.S. Army in December of 1945 where he served as a Staff Sgt. in charge of personnel while serving overseas.
In 1957 he became a director of the Centennial Mutual insurance Co. and was elected Secretary in 1960 where he was instrumental in arranging a merger with four other local fire insurance companies. The new company became the Valley Mutual Insurance Company of Shippensburg and Mr. Fogelsanger was elected a Director and also Treasurer.
In 1970 he was elected to the board of directors of the Peoples National Bank of Shippensburg and continued on the advisory board when the bank was merged with Dauphin Deposit Bank of Harrisburg in 1980. He was appointed by the Governor as a Notary Public in 1937 and also became a licensed Real Estate Broker in 1948 and continued to operate until February of 1988.
Mr. Fogelsanger has been active in community affairs including the Shippensburg Community Chest as a Drive Chairman and Board President; Shippensburg Lions Club, Shippensburg College Club, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, Shippensburg Historical Society, Cumberland Valley Lodge # 315 F & A.M. and other Masonic related organizations.
He was a past member of the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church where he served on the board of Trustees and was an Elder where he was the Clerk of Sessions for several terms and presently a member of the Hope Reformed Presbyterian Church in Shippensburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor A. “Ellie” Rebok Fogelsanger, whom he married March 8, 1941 and who died June 1, 2008. A brother Arthur Fogelsanger is also deceased.
He is survived by a son Jeffrey P. Fogelsanger and his wife Connie of Shippensburg, a daughter Sandra L. Goldman of Bethesda, MD, five grandchildren; Peter Fogelsanger, Brad Goldman, Todd Goldman, Scott Goldman, and Mark Fogelsanger, seven great grandchildren; Megan Fogelsanger, Kasey Fogelsanger, Charles Flynn, Eleanor “Ellie” Flynn, Malia Goldman, Cora Flynn, and Alexander Goldman, a sister Helen Crouse of Shippensburg, and a sister in law Pauline Fogelsanger of State College.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hope Reformed Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg with military services conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion and VFW Posts following. Officiating will be The Rev. Dr. David J. Fidati. A private burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. There will be no viewing, however a visitation will be held one hour prior to the services in church.
