Paul F. Detweiler, 88, of Chambersburg, departed this life on the evening of Monday, July 9, 2018, at his home.
He was born on May 19, 1930, in Lansdale, a son of the late Howard and Katie Freed Detweiler and married Dorothy Greaser on September 7, 1952, in Quakertown.
Paul worked the family farm in Newville, in dairy production and crops, for forty-three years. He also worked for his son at Detweiler Silos, until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of the Cedar Street Mennonite Church, Chambersburg, since 1980. He helped with Bible School, taught Sunday School, and also worked within the Mennonite Disaster Relief Service. Paul enjoyed music and playing the organ. In his free time, he liked learning about computers, technology (in general), and playing table and yard games with his family.
In addition to his wife of sixty-five years, he is survived by nine children, David (Darlene) Detweiler, Dorothy Ann (Timothy) Brenneman, Paul Clyde (Missy) Detweiler, Cleon (Nancy) Detweiler, Carol Joy (Ethan) Good, Beverly Doneker, Cheryl Lynne (Kevin) Lehman, Cindy (James) Rizzuto, and Dale Alan (Jennifer) Detweiler; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Detweiler; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by eleven siblings; son-in-law, Tom Doneker; and granddaughter, Tonya Doddy.
His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the Chambersburg Mennonite Church. Pastor Larry Lehman and Paul’s son, Pastor Dale Detweiler will officiate. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewing will be Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
