Paul Edwin Beals, 80, a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, formerly of Shippensburg, died Friday, December 28, 2012 in the home.
He was born April 5, 1932 in Moshannon, PA. Paul was a son of the late James W. and Hazel Watson Beals.
Paul was a retired professor from Shippensburg University, where he taught from 1966 until his retirement. Shortly after moving to Shippensburg, he completed his Doctorate in Education at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. Paul was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was active in many civic, church, and academic organizations, including the Lions Club, the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church, Bible Visuals International and Newspapers in Education. He enjoyed golfing, reading, spending time outdoors, attending sporting events, traveling, and especially spending time with his family.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Gray Beals, who was his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. Four of his siblings, Evan Beals, Elouise Hauser, Marguerite Fanning and Patricia Barnyak are also deceased.
He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca A. Kozlosky and her husband Joseph of Jonestown, and Sharon L. Hesse and her husband Scott of Blue Ridge Summit, two grandsons, Nathan Scott and Benjamin Paul Hesse both of Hatteras, NC, and three siblings, Dorothy Folmar of Grassflat, Melvin Beals of Clearfield, and Theodore Beals of Winterhaven, FL.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. Officiating will be The Rev. Vernon D. Isner. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion and VFW Posts will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.
