Ocie M. Ballance, Jr., known to most as “Buddy”, departed this life on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, WV. He was 83 years old.
He was born on April 6, 1936, in Norfolk, VA, the son of the late Ocie M. and Grace (Harriman) Ballance, Sr. Buddy was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from April 14, 1954 until being honorably discharged on November 13, 1957. He married Mary McKeown on August 30, 1955.
Buddy owned and operated Reb’s Tire Service in Carlisle and then after a while, also started selling cars as well. In his free time he enjoyed going to the beach in Virginia and North Carolina. Buddy also really enjoyed traveling, especially driving, to other states in the south and west.
In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, Mary, of Shippensburg, Buddy is survived by two daughters, Cindy L. Neil and husband Gregory and Diane Lee Ballance, both of Shippensburg; his son, Mark A. Ballance and wife Irene of Florida; grandson, Garrett H.C. Gibson of Shippensburg; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his sister, Grace B. Lamb; and his granddaughter, Hannah Nicole Neil.
His funeral services, entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, will be private. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Buddy will be laid to rest at his property in North Carolina, which he loved to visit so very much.
