Norman Koontz

August 5, 1939 — January 13, 2018

Norman C. Koontz, III, 78, of Newburg, departed this life on the evening of Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Chambersburg Hospital, surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 5, 1939, in Indiana, PA, the son of the late Norman C. and Dorothy M. Igou Koontz, Jr., and was a 1957 graduate of William Penn Senior High School in York. Shortly thereafter, Norman enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 30, 1958 and was honorably discharged on April 29, 1964 as a Machinist’s Mate. He was proud of his service to country and the fact that he was a plank owner of the U.S.S. Charles F. Adams DDG 2.

After being discharged, Norman worked for International Harvester, but spent the majority of his career working in sales for Lift Parts Services of Delmarva. He was a big fan of the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and a member of the Salisbury Moose Family Center, Lodge #654, Salisbury, MD. Norman loved his dog Chewy and will be remembered for his dedication to family, large personality and outgoing nature.

He is survived by three children, Christine M. (Jeff) Pyne of Newburg, Cherie L. Koontz of Easton, MD, and Norman C. Koontz, IV, of Royersford, PA; five grandchildren, Aaron (Melanie) Pyne of Shippensburg, Brenna Pyne of Shippensburg, Shaun M. Barlow of Salisbury, MD, Brittany E. (Riley) Barlow of San Francisco, CA, and Mela Ann Koontz of Royersford, PA; three great grandchildren, Brenton Hanson, Trey Pyne, and Lilly Laughman; four sisters, Rosemary Fornadel, Virginia Ulsh, Kathy Kean, and Marcia Hydrusko; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Norman’s funeral services, entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, will be private. Per his wishes, there will be no public viewing or visitation. Interment services, to be held in Maryland, will also be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salisbury Moose Family Center, Lodge #654 at 833 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804-1938.
