Nelson L. Perry, 80, of Chambersburg, died on the evening of Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at his home.
He was born on July 29, 1934, in Chambersburg, a son of the late Lester S.. Perry and the late Rhoda Baker Perry Sollenberger and step-father, Arthur B. Sollenberger. Nelson went to elementary school in Greenvillage, a small school with only a few rooms that had its demise in 1945 and was a 1952 graduate of Chambersburg High School. He married Ms. Margaret L. Shank on October 3, 1953, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 5, 1953 and was honorably discharged on November 15, 1956.
After completion of his service in the Navy, Nelson was employed at the Letterkenny Army Depot from 1958 until 1990, retiring as a management Analyst. He then worked for Baps, Chambersburg, from 1992 until 2010.
Nelson was a very faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Greenvillage, where he was on the council many years, a Sunday School teacher, a superintendant at times, changed many lightbulbs, and if the bell or something else didn’t function, if he couldn’t fix it, he talked to others at the church or else-where, and it all worked out. He was a life-long New York Yankees and Indianapolis Colts fan and he was an avid golfer at Rocky Springs Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret; four children, Deborah Kay Henry, Donald L. (Joanne) Perry, Diane L. (Randy) Monn, and David N. (Lisa) Perry; nine grandchildren, Mike, Amy, Matthew, Erin, Cherish, Bear, Swade, Sarah, and Ben; five great grandchildren, Carlin, Damien, Devin, Lincoln, and Lainey; two brothers, William H. (Mary Belle) Perry and Ronald E. (Mary) Perry; one sister, Delores Campbell; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by his step-brother, Dale E. Sollenberger; and son-in-law, James Henry.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, March 27, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Ruth Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in the Air Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
