Nellie ‘Nell’ Carrie Daihl Nenninger, 90, formerly of 55 Naugle Road, Shippensburg, died on Christmas Eve at seven o’clock p.m., in the home of her son Rev. James David Nenninger.
Nell was the fifth of eleven children born to Joseph Clever Daihl and Hazel Edna Husler Daihl, and was the last surviving member of her family. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Walter Irwin Nenninger, who died October 10, 2001.
Nell is survived by her two sons Rev. James David Nenninger and wife, Rae of Lovettsville, Virginia and Phillip Walter Nenninger and wife, Diana of Newville; six grandchildren: Jeremy S. Nenninger of Falls Church, Virginia, Cynthia D. (James) O’Daniel of Fredericksburg, VA, Julia D. (Jeffrey) Wright of Corbett, Oregon, Phillip W. Nenninger II of Hellam, Christopher S. (Samantha) Nenninger of Carlisle, and Sarah Beth Nenninger of Newville; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Nell was a life-long member of Rehoboth Methodist Church, now Trinity United Methodist Church at Walnut Bottom, PA. An avid homemaker, Nell loved redbirds, gardening, home making, neighbors, her family and her church. She loved people and the stories that accompanied them. After her husband’s death, Nell enjoyed her new neighbors, Leon and Luella Burkholder and watching their family grow on the farm where she and all her siblings were born.
Nell died peacefully after battling respiratory related diseases: she was a cancer survivor from the mid-1990’s Nell had the services of Capital Caring Hospice, Leesburg, VA in the last weeks of her life. In lieu of flowers the family suggests support of your local hospice organization and/or Trinity UMC at 118 West Main St. PO Box 217 Walnut Bottom, PA 17266.
Her funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Harold A. Bolyard, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
