Nellie Marie Gruver, 86, a resident of the Shippensburg Health Care Center, died on the morning of Wednesday, May 28, 2014.
She was born on September 2, 1927, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Samuel and Alma Mooney Smith.
Nellie was a homemaker throughout her life. She attended the Ridge Church of the Brethren and in the past had been a member of both the Green Spring and South Mountain Chapel Brethren in Christ churches.
She is survived by her six sons, William (Joyce) Gruver of Shippensburg, Thomas Gruver of Carlisle, Donald (Lois) Gruver of Walnut Bottom, James (Barb) Gruver of Cleversburg, Richard Gruver of Farmington, MI, and Wayne (Stacy) Gruver of Shippensburg; her daughter, Nancy (David) Shoap of Walnut Bottom, a brother, Robert Smith of Shippensburg. She was the loving “Gram” to her fourteen grandchildren: Jamie, Lee, Cherie, Jeremy, Troy, Tony, Jenny, Kelly, Kenny, Ashley, Stephanie, Meghan, Scott, and Matt and ten great-grandchildren: Noah, Mackenzie, Paige, Jackson, Micah, Katelyn, Jadynn, Jonah, Katie, and Erin.
In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Gruver, who died on March 18, 2006; and her sister, Alma Woltz.
A separate viewing will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 4 to 6 pm at the Fogelsanger- Bricker Funeral Home in Shippensburg. Her funeral service will also be at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11:00 am with viewing preceding the service at 10 am. Nellie’s son, Mr. William Gruver will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
