Nancy Ann Piper

Nancy Ann Piper, 84, of Orrstown, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Chambersburg Hospital.

She was born Saturday, November 23, 1940 in Mongul, the daughter of the late Herbert C. and Lucy E. Nye Mathna.

Nancy graduated from the Shippensburg High School. She worked at the former Richard’s Textile, Shippensburg, and G.S. Electric in Carlisle and Chambersburg. 

She was a member of the former Mongul United Brethren Church. She was very musically inclined and shared her talent with everyone. She played the organ at several churches in the Shippensburg area, and enjoyed playing the accordion.

Nancy provided transportation to many Amish families within the community.

She was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223; Minnequa Social Club; and loved putting puzzles together.

Nancy is survived by one son, Rick E. (Elizabeth) Shoemaker, Newville; one granddaughter, Alex; one grandson, Austin; two brothers, Clark (Mary) Mathna, Orrstown, and Stanley Mathna, Newburg; one sister, Helen Carlson, Stanley, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy F. Piper, Jr, who passed away May 21, 2014; one daughter, Patricia Ann Shaffer; and five siblings, Jay Mathna, Vivian Dangler, Herbert Dean Mathna, Thomas Dallas Mathna, and Melvin Mathna.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rising Hope Church (Mongul) with Pastor Brent Liechty officiating. Burial will be in Mongul Cemetery. A viewing will be held Thursday, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rising Hope Church, 4162 Roxbury Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
