Miriam M. Stitt, Shippensburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Manor Care, Chambersburg.
Born December 30, 1917 in McConnellsburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Florence Baker Hopkins.
Miriam was a member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg, a chapter member of the Valley Cedarettes and Fort Morris AARP.
She was a 1934 graduate of McConnellsburg High School. She worked a variety of jobs such as a waitressing, clerical work at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Jay-Dee Dept. Store, Shirt Craft both in Shippensburg and Montgomery Ward, Carlisle.
Miriam is survived by a son Michael C. Stitt Sr. and his wife Cynthia, Shippensburg, two grandsons, Jeff K. Futscher, Fayetteville and Michael C. Stitt, Jr., Fort Leonardwood, MO, one granddaughter, Lia College, Newville, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Cree Stitt who died June 29, 2010 and a daughter, Debra Stitt who died in December 2003.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011 in the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church at 11:30 A.M. with the Rev. Derek Wadlington and Rev. Kimberley Wadlington officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Spring Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
