Miriam H. Bert, 99, a resident of Penn Hall, formerly of Luther Ridge and Shippensburg, died peacefully on the evening of Saturday, September 26, 2015.
She was born on August 4, 1916, in Pleasant Hall, the daughter of the late David B. and Mary Frances “Fannie” Creamer Hoover. Miriam was a 1934 graduate of Chambersburg High School and a 1936 graduate of the former Chambersburg Business College. She married John R. Bert in December of 1943. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1971.
Miriam and John owned and operated the former Concrete Products, Shippensburg, but she retired from the Shippensburg University, where she was the Secretary for the Dean of Students, after 14 years of employment there.
She was a long-time member of the Memorial Lutheran Church and its Joy Bearers Sunday School class; a member of the First Court Chapter #470 Order of the Eastern Star; A.A.R.P. #2525; and the Shippensburg Historical Society.
Miriam is survived by her son, Richard G. (Marie Lane) Bert of Springfield, VA; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Bert, William (Kara) Bert, and Brandon (Jennifer) Bert.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg. Chaplain Brenda Doyle and Pastor Eric Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
