Mildred L. Burge, 81, of Fayetteville, departed this life on the evening of Monday, July 8, 2024, at her home.
She was born on January 4, 1943, in Willow Hill, a daughter of the late Ernest R. and Grace E. (Hockenberry) Neil, Sr. Mildred married James M. Burge, Jr., on October 25, 1991, in York, PA.
She was a computer operator at the New Cumberland Defense Depot, from where she retired.
Mildred was an Evangelical Christian of the Protestant faith. She attended the Newburg First Church of God in younger years. Mildred possessed a spiritual gift of the ability to sing, which she absolutely loved to do. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, solo performances, and also karaoke. Mildred was known as an excellent cook and loved her many dogs throughout her life.
In addition to her husband of thirty-three years, James, she is survived by her daughter, Susan L. Bonilla of Chambersburg; two step-sons, James M. Burge, III and Jeremy B. Burge, both of Hattiesburg, MS; one brother, Michael J. Neil of Shippensburg; three sisters, Gloria A. Neil of Picayune, MS, Sandra J. Hockenberry of Piedmont, AL, and Cynthia Holtry of Willow Hill, PA; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest R. Neil, Jr., Roger A. Neil, and Corbett Neil; and three sisters, Mary E. Hockenberry, Ginger E. Neil, and Linda R. Hockenberry.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, July 12, 2024, in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Chaplain Bob Murr will officiate. Interment will follow in the Upper Path Valley Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Friday morning at the funeral home.
