Mervin Carver

September 2, 1929 — August 31, 2016

Mervin F. Carver, Jr., 86 of Shippensburg, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in the Shippensburg Health Care Center.

He was born September 2, 1929 in Carlisle, PA. Mervin was a son of the late Mervin F., Sr. and Anna E. Shank Carver. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Winona Wadel Carver, and a son, Roger Carver, Sr.

He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Shippensburg. Mervin was an auto mechanic at Naugle Motors for over 40 years. He was a member of the Shippensburg Town Band for 68 years, where he played the clarinet. He enjoyed raising pigeons and tropical fish. Mervin also enjoyed model railroads, and building and flying remote controlled airplanes. Mervin was a member of the Antique Car Club.

He is survived by his wife, Esther A. Ocker Carver who he married March 21, 1988, one daughter Sandy (Jack) Bigler of Shippensburg, a daughter-in-law, Maureen Carver of Lynn Haven, FL, six grandchildren, Roger Carver, Jr. of Lynn Haven, FL, Christine Carver of Fort Myers, FL, Tammy (Brian) Miller of Shippensburg, Brent (Vanessa) Bigler of Chambersburg, Paula Hendricks of GA, and Russell Carver of Naples, FL, eight great grandchildren, four step-children, Joan Runshaw, Lorrayne Alstadt, Mary Ann Mowery, and Robert (Teresa) Mowery all of Shippensburg, one sister, Doris Jean Dye of Carlisle, one brother, George Carver of Carlisle, numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and step-great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in the Christ United Methodist Church, Shippensburg at 11 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Sandy Kraft. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1200 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, PA 17013 or the Christ United Methodist Church, 47 East King Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
