Merrill C. Mentzer, 89, of Shippensburg, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Monday, March 28, 1932 in Hawstone, Mifflin County, PA, he was a son of the late Russell E. and Olive B. Gutshall Mentzer.
Merrill was a United States Air Force Veteran serving in the Vietnam War and the Korean War, retiring after 20 years of service. He retired in 1987 from Letterkenny Army Depot where he worked as a telephone installer.
He was a member of the Shippensburg First Church of God. Merrill was a member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post # 1599, Chambersburg, and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg. He was an avid hunter, and a baseball fan, and also umpired baseball games.
Merrill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Ann Baker Mentzer, whom he married September 30, 1956; one daughter, Trudy B. (Neil) Price, Gettysburg; one son, Russell C. (wife Sherre) Mentzer, Sr., Shippensburg; three grandsons, Jordan D. Mentzer, Shippensburg, Benjamin T. Price, Gettysburg, and Skyler Lynch, Shippensburg; one granddaughter, Amber B. Price, Gettysburg; one great grandson, Julian Mentzer, Tampa, FL.; four great granddaughters, Isabella A. Mentzer, Shippensburg, Kaili Taylor, Tampa, FL., Marley Mentzer, Shippensburg, and Emily Mentzer, Tampa, FL., and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Ruth Kyler, Freda Mentzer, Helen Mellott, Esther Wagner, Grace Marie Miller, and Flo J. Scott; six brothers, Earl L., Blaine A., Jerry H., Cloyd, Carl R., and Dale E. Mentzer; and one grandson, Russell C. Mentzer, Jr., who passed away February 7, 2016.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with the Rev. Jim Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 Minutemen. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services on Wednesday, at the funeral home.
