Melvin L. Crider, 82, of Fayetteville, and formerly of Shippensburg, died in the early hours of Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Friday, May 18, 1934 in Hopewell Township, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Jacob and Martha Rine Crider.
He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church, Chambersburg. He was a former Meat Manager at the Butcher Shoppe in Chambersburg and was currently a part-time clerk serving customers with a total of 39 years of service, and a Meat Manager at the former Cressler’s Market in Chambersburg with 24 years of service.
Melvin loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and gardening. He was a real people person who seemed to be everyone’s favorite butcher. Melvin loved and cherished his family, especially his two granddaughters, and will be sadly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sally C. Myers Crider, one son, Mark D. (wife Kelly) Crider of Fayetteville, two granddaughters; Emilee Nicole (husband David) Henry, of Chambersburg, and Morgan Amber (husband Shay) Gladfelter, of University Place, WA, two brothers; Jacob G. (wife Bonnie) and Gerald E. (wife Charlotte) Crider, all of Shippensburg, and two sisters; Doris (husband Paul) Brenize, of Shippensburg, and Bertha (husband Paul) Kolva, of Chambersburg.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium with Rev. Garry L. Culler and Rev. John A. Ile, Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hall Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday in the funeral home.
